Are you looking to inspire the next generation? CoderDojo Sunshine Coast is starting its next series of workshops on 14 February and is looking for mentors to help out.

Anyone can be a mentor. You don’t need to be an expert in coding – all you need is a passion for helping kids learn. Mentors are often asked to guide kids with ideas, point them to other kids who have the knowledge or call for help from a lead mentor.

If you have an interest in coding, technology and programming that’s a bonus as you will help guide and inspire kids in languages like Scratch, HTML, Python and JavaScript.

CoderDojo Sunshine Coast is part of a global collaboration providing free and open learning to young people, especially in programming technology.

CoderDojo Term 1 runs for six Saturdays starting on 14 February from 9am – 11am at Maroochydore Library, with possible additional workshops at Noosa Library and the Institute of Professional Learning at Sippy Downs.

Register your interest on the CoderDojo Sunshine Coast website www.coderdojosunshinecoast.com.au

Free coding workshops

CoderDojo Sunshine Coast is open to 7-17 year-olds interested in learning basic web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), app and game development. No prior knowledge is required.

CoderDojo is an open source, volunteer-led movement orientated around running free not-for-profit coding clubs (Dojos) for young people.

In addition to learning to code, members meet like minded people, show off what they’ve been working on and learn new things. CoderDojo makes development and learning to code a fun, sociable and awesome experience.

CoderDojo also puts a strong emphasis on open source and free software, and has a strong network of members and volunteers globally. CoderDojo has just one rule: “Above all: Be cool” – bullying, lying, wasting people’s time and so on is uncool.

Bookings essential: Limited spaces available. Participants will be required to bring a laptop and something to snack on.

Cost: FREE

Dates:  6 Saturdays from 14 February – 28 March (no session on 21 February)

Times: 9am to 11am
