The Techstars Sustainability Startup Weekend took place this weekend 5-7 August and saw three female-led startups take out the top three spots. Sunday night six teams delivered final pitches to a crowd of around 60 people at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Innovation Centre, bringing the Sunshine Coast’s seventh annual Startup Weekend event to a close. The DeLorean Project supporting youth with skill sets that lasts a lifetime.

Over the past 4 years, Glasshouse Christian College have been dedicating one day a week for their year 10 students to teach them various skill sets through, what they call, The DeLorean Project. The vision for the project is for the kids to develop skills in the four different areas: ways of thinking, ways of working, tools of working and ways of living in the world. Meat pie launched into space breaks altitude record

Queensland rapid prototyping professional Mic Black and a crew of startups, academics and students made history on the weekend, launching a meat pie to the highest ever altitude in the southern hemisphere. The flight with helium balloons and a Garlo’s meat pie on board was the finale to a 4-day “NewSpace FlashBuild” event held from 7-11 November 2018 to promote and engage the space industry in Australia. The balloon reached 28.3 kilometres before bursting and returning to earth, pie intact.
